At the time I had a number of elm boards curing and I thought that it would be interesting to come up with a design which would maximize the use of the timber available; it had to be comfortable and thus the adzed hollow in the seat; it always needed a neck rest and a stabilizing protrusion for which I chose a chrysalis motif, indicative of that restful moment to summon energy to make a new beginning … Like The Paul Klee chair, this design is made from elm boards with ash neck-rest and footing.
It is in a private Hampshire collection.
